We Loved this project for our home town of Saltash and the memorial peace garden. We installed the new pearl quartz resin bound aggregate which is stunning and pressed these amazing hand painted pebbles into the resin to cure. The reason for this unusual job is that The Great War Commemorative Events Committee in Saltash; with special help from Saltash Heritage were made aware that although there are 96 names on the First World War Memorials at St Nicholas and Faith and St Stephens Churches, there were another 44 people who had not been honoured. Initially we thought we would paint a pebble for each of the 44 but the discussions then led to the fact that if we were able to have 140 pebbles painted, we could honour each of Saltash’s First World War dead. An appeal went out through Saltash Pebble Art and other media and the wonderful people of Saltash and surrounds got to work. Painted pebbles were received from school children, the local children’s clubs and organisations, individuals, residents of residential homes, art classes, etc., etc. A real community effort. Such a privilege to help preserve a lovely community effort. We know this will still be a memory for Saltash to enjoy in 20 years plus.
